Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about studying with MACPrep.

What is MACPrep?

MACPrep is an NCCAA board review question bank for anesthesiologist assistants — both student anesthesiologist assistants (SAAs) preparing for their initial certification board exam and Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants (CAAs) reviewing and practicing for their recertification board exam. Questions are mapped to the six domains of the NCCAA content outline and written with realistic clinical vignettes, teaching explanations, and references to standard sources (Miller's, Barash, Stoelting, Chestnut's, ASRA, ASA, MHAUS).

Who is it for?

Two main audiences: SAAs preparing for the NCCAA Certification Examination (CERT), and practicing CAAs reviewing for recertification (the Examination for Continued Demonstration of Qualifications). It's equally useful for anyone who wants a structured, in-depth review of anesthesia principles, physiology, pharmacology, monitoring, subspecialty care, and regional anesthesia.

How is the question bank organized?

Every item is tagged to one of six official domains — Principles of Anesthesia; Physiology, Pathophysiology & Management; Instrumentation, Monitoring & Delivery Systems; Subspecialty Care; Pharmacology; and Regional Anesthesia & Pain Management — plus a specific subtopic, so you can study the way the exam is actually scored.

What does the free tier include?

Free accounts can try 25 questions via a recommended session, with the same server-graded answers and explanations as premium. Once you've used your free questions, you can upgrade for full access to the entire bank and every study mode.

What does premium include, and what does it cost?

Premium is a one-time $100 payment for full, lifetime access to the entire question bank — every domain, every explanation, and every reference — with no recurring subscription.

How is MACPrep different from Vigilant IQ or TrueLearn?

All three are built for the NCCAA exam, so the real difference is how you pay and how long you keep it. Vigilant IQ and TrueLearn sell time-limited access — Vigilant from $99 (30 days) to $299 (a year), TrueLearn from $249 (30 days) to $439 (a year) — and it expires when your window closes, so you pay again to review for a recert or in-training exam later. MACPrep is a single $100 payment for lifetime access: the full bank, future updates, and every exam you'll sit in your career, with no re-purchase. Every MACPrep question also links to a public source and explains every answer choice, not just the correct one. Vigilant IQ and MACPrep are built specifically for CAAs — MACPrep for both the certification and recertification exams — while TrueLearn is a large, multi-exam platform whose anesthesiologist-assistant bank sits alongside its physician-anesthesiology (ABA) banks. (Competitor pricing as published on their sites, July 2026.)

How do I upgrade?

Sign in, open your dashboard or profile, and click “Upgrade to Full Access.” Payment is processed securely by Stripe — MACPrep never sees or stores your card details. Your account unlocks automatically once payment is confirmed.

How are my answers graded?

Grading happens on the server. Correct answers and explanations are not sent to your browser until after you answer, which reduces answer-key exposure and keeps scoring consistent across devices.

Is the content medically reviewed?

Questions are authored to a defined quality bar and cited to standard references. Items pass through an authoring and review workflow (draft → SME review → published) before being marked as reviewed. We do not present unreviewed content as exam-validated.

How do I track my progress?

Your dashboard shows total questions answered and your accuracy. Each practice session reports a per-session score so you can see how you're trending across domains.

Do you offer a pass guarantee?

Yes — the MACPrep 100% Pass Guarantee. Study with MACPrep, sit the NCCAA certifying exam, and if you don't pass, we'll refund your $100 in full. Just email your proof of purchase and your official score report to support@macprep.org within 90 days of your exam. Applies to paid premium purchases only — not free or comped accounts — with no usage requirements. This is separate from, and in addition to, the standard 48-hour refund below.

Do you offer refunds?

Yes — premium is a one-time purchase, and you can request a full, no-questions-asked refund within 48 hours of buying by emailing support@macprep.org. After 48 hours, purchases are non-refundable (except where required by law). The free tier lets you try the platform before you pay.
