Privacy Policy

MACPrep ("we," "us") provides an anesthesia board review question bank. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible and to keep it secure.

1. Information we collect

• Account information: your email address and authentication credentials. Passwords are submitted over HTTPS and passed to Supabase Auth for verification; MACPrep does not store or intentionally log plaintext passwords.
• Profile information: your name, professional credential, lifecycle stage, and AA program or institution. SAAs also provide an expected graduation date. A target exam date and phone number are optional.
• Applicant planning information: if you use the applicant workspace, we store the programs and application cycle you choose, prerequisite and task progress, shadowing hours, and related planning details you enter.
• Study activity: questions attempted, submitted answers, correctness, confidence, timing, notes, flags, flashcards, and related progress information used to provide study and readiness features.
• Leaderboard information: your participation setting, an automatically generated anonymous study name, selected title, questions answered, accuracy, and study streak. New eligible board-prep accounts participate anonymously by default after the signup notice. You may instead show only your first name and last initial or leave the leaderboard entirely from Profile or Leaderboard. Existing hidden accounts are not enrolled retroactively.
• Purchase and entitlement records: payment status, product, provider, transaction identifiers, and account access status. Stripe processes web card payments; Apple and Google process native-app purchases. MACPrep does not receive or store full card numbers.
• Device, usage, and diagnostic information: platform, limited first-party product events, a pseudonymous browser visitor identifier for the public demo, push-notification tokens when you opt in to notifications, and diagnostic reports about crashes or failures. Diagnostic information may be linked to the affected account or session when needed to investigate and resolve a problem. We configure monitoring to suppress request bodies, request headers, authentication data, cookies, URL query strings, and known account or purchase identifiers where practical.
• Information you submit: support requests, question feedback, product suggestions, and reviews. A public review is linked to your account internally so you can edit it and so MACPrep can investigate reports or abuse. Its chosen name, credential, rating, and text appear on MACPrep's public review surfaces while the review remains published; your account ID and email are not. MACPrep does not use a member review in broader marketing without separate permission. Clean reviews publish immediately. Objective safety screening holds profanity, threats, or abusive language for review.

2. How we use your information

• To provide the service — authenticate you, serve questions, grade answers, and track progress.
• To verify purchases, vouchers, refunds, and account access across the website and native apps.
• To personalize study recommendations, calculate progress, and operate opt-in reminders.
• To understand product use and audience characteristics using account, profile, purchase, and study information, and to improve MACPrep.
• To operate the signed-in community leaderboard according to the visibility setting you control.
• To display a review you choose to publish on MACPrep's public review surfaces.
• To provide verified faculty or program directors with the cohort information described below.
• To respond to support requests and content reports, moderate submitted content, block abusive accounts, protect the Service, and improve reliability.

3. How your information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We disclose information in these limited circumstances:

• Your program: faculty or program directors whose access MACPrep has verified and assigned to your selected AA program may view your name, email, credential, study activity, and performance in their cohort dashboard. They cannot select another program's cohort.
• Other eligible signed-in users: when participation is enabled, they can see your anonymous study name or your first name and last initial, selected title, and leaderboard metrics. Your full name and email are never shown on the leaderboard.
• Service providers: Supabase for authentication and data storage, Render for hosting, Stripe or the applicable app store for purchases, and providers used for email, error monitoring, and push notifications when those features are enabled. We require providers handling personal information for us to protect it consistently with this policy and applicable law.
• Legal and safety needs: when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect MACPrep, our users, or others.

4. Data security

We use HTTPS, server-side authorization, restricted database access, secure session cookies, and other technical and organizational safeguards. Correct answers are not sent to the client before an answer or completed exam is graded. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

5. Data retention and your rights

We retain account and study information while your account is active and as reasonably needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations, and protect the Service. You may view or edit profile information, choose anonymous leaderboard display, show your first name and last initial, leave the leaderboard entirely, and request account deletion from your profile. You may also request deletion or a copy of your data at support@macprep.org. Payment providers may retain transaction records under their own legal and financial obligations.

6. Cookies, local storage & analytics

We use secure, same site cookies to maintain signed in sessions. Local storage holds nonsecret interface preferences, resumable local state, and a sign in display marker. Optional first party interaction events run only after you allow them. If allowed, local storage also holds a pseudonymous identifier used to measure the public sample question experience. We reject unapproved analytics fields. You can allow or decline analytics, and change that choice anytime, on our Cookie Policy page. Declining does not affect core functionality. We do not use third party advertising cookies, sell browsing data, or build cross site advertising profiles.

7. Children's privacy

MACPrep is intended for healthcare professionals and students and is not directed to children under 13.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
